FedEx Package Accidentally Returned to Sender — Spark Notes
Step 1: Get Your Tracking Number
- Check your order confirmation email from the retailer
- Check the retailer's website under "My Orders"
- If you have a FedEx account, check your delivery manager dashboard
Step 2: Call FedEx
- Phone: 1-800-463-3339
- Tell them: "My building accidentally refused a package and returned it to sender. I need to intercept it."
- Ask where the package currently is — it's either:
- Still at your local FedEx facility (best case)
- In transit back to the sender
- Already delivered back to the sender
Step 3: Request a Package Intercept
- If the package is still in the FedEx network, ask them to redirect it back to you
- FedEx offers a Package Intercept service — there may be a fee (~19)
- You can also request a Hold at FedEx Location so you pick it up yourself
Step 4: Contact the Retailer/Sender
- If FedEx can't intercept it, call the retailer
- Ask them to either:
- Reship the order once they receive the return
- Send a replacement immediately
- Have your order number and tracking number ready
Step 5: Prevent It Next Time
- Register for FedEx Delivery Manager (free) at fedex.com/manager
- Lets you redirect packages, hold at a facility, or schedule delivery
- Talk to your building management about not refusing packages with the correct address
- Consider adding delivery instructions to future orders
Key phrase to use with FedEx: "I'd like to request a package intercept on tracking number [YOUR NUMBER]. The package was refused by mistake at my building."
